Every adolescent/teen girl and gay boy in the early 2000s knew this film (and was probably in love with Jesse Bradford—I know I was). I rewatched it recently and found that it has held up extremely well—it's an excellent comedy and "feel good" entertainment in the truest sense of the word. The script is witty and there are so many funny moments throughout. As far as teen comedies of this era go, I cannot think of a better one.
Let's discuss the cheerleading cult classic "Bring It On" (2000)

Loved this movie. Brrr. It's cold in here.

I really liked this movie too, even if the premise is pretty far-fetched, that a suburban high school could steal cheers from a large inner-city high school, win national championships with them, and yet nobody was the wiser.

Lots of great little moments, especially the flirtatious tooth-brushing scene with Dunst and Bradford

The cheerleading auditions montage is comic gold.

Also loved this scene from "Not Another Teen Movie" which spoofs "Bring It On."

Some genuinely awful dialogue:
"MIssy's the poo! So take a big whiff!
"Oh, do you speak fag?" "FLUENTLY!"
Overall though, it's very, very fun. Although it has been pointed out rightly that the film never again hits the peak of its first few minutes of the "We Are Cheerleaders!" sequence.

"Cheerleaders are dancers, who have gone retarded."
I randomly quoted this hilarious line for years.

The guys who played the male cheerleaders were hot.

As R12 notes, the opening sequence is fantastic, but I also love the end credits sequence

It led to the fabulous spinoff with Nicholas d'Agosto at cheerleading camp. Now THAT was cinema.

I misread the description. But I prefer my scrambled capsule description:
[quote]Kirsten Dunst stars as a cheerleading captain who discovers that her team's routines were stolen from the squad across town, and scrambles to find [bold]an old trout...[/bold]

This virtual cast reunion from 2020 is a fun watch. The director, Peyton Reed—he must be family, right?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 27, 2024 4:21 AM |
Just kidding--he is married (to a woman).

R16 it’s nice when we get to have someone who isn’t irritating cast as a gay character.

The guy who played Dunst college boyfriend Richard Hillman died of a drug overdose in 2009. Natina Reed who was Gabrielle Unions bff and fellow clover died in 2012 after being hit by a car.

R26 there are some WILD claims on our beloved LSA about Richard Hillman (Google it and you’ll find it). He was also apparently HIV positive, having contracted it through intravenous drug use.
