Bernie is now fundraising off of Pete's wine cellar fundraiser
Subject line was literally “wine cave,” I shit you not. The pettiness, honey. 😂
[quote]Now, I am not entirely sure what happens when people pay huge sums of money to have dinner with a candidate at a wine cave with "1,500 Swarovski crystals," but I would guess they are not talking about standing up to the greed of the billionaire class of this country. Needless to say, we will never have a fundraiser at a wine cave. But we do need your help to fight back against the wine cave money flooding into this race stop us. So we're asking...

[quote]Now, I am not entirely sure what happens
A designated reporter was there, so we know exactly what happened and what was said. Cut the Trumpian populism.
[quote]when people pay huge sums of money to have dinner
Just a gentle reminder that that "huge sum of money" mentioned can be $2.800 max and you can't donate to that candidate again for the rest of the primary should you reach that limit. Contrast that to Pence's dinner the other day where the entry fee was 20k a head. Or Warren's fundraisers last year where donations went up to 4k, before DNC's primary rules kicked in.

He seemed to enjoy these fundraisers the last time around. Wonder what happened? 🤨

I wish someone would call him on the bullshit that he spouts. How many houses do you have Bernie? P.S. your wife should be in jail for what she did.

So Pete likes wine?
That makes me like him even more.

Don't anyone tell Bernard that wineries are everywhere in Napa and that hipsters enjoy them these days as well. They're not just a high-priced corporate thing anymore.

r6 He rode an electric scooter for the first time the other day. Close enough!
I can't get over these D.C. barnacles giving this poor Midwestern mayor grief for having dinner in a nice place now and then. They do realise he's not taking the campaign funds into his pocket and that he and Chasten are still eating microwaved tuna when they're back home, right? Leave him be, ffs!

This old MF. I swear. I don't give a flying FUCK about fundraisers like these. It's so easy for him and Warren to throw these petty "purity tests" out when they're established figures with huge name recognition - were each able to enter the race with huge war chests and long donor lists.... now they just to want to pull the carpet out from under anyone else.

It's not easy.
They had to win senate seats first to have that name recognition.

r12 And just how do you think they managed to do that? This invite from 2012 contains a clue - look under "suggested contributions." Kevin Ryan is a Wall Street investor, by the way. Yes, this is how Warren got her Senate seat. This is how ALL of them get their Senate seats. And they're now denouncing a no-name mayor for doing the same while playing by the rules of that fairly restrictive $2.800 limit. They want to kneecap him so he won't have enough money to campaign with, that's all there is to it.

Pete is broke as fuck -- that is why he is holding fundraisers. He's said this before. Unlike Sanders, he lacks the recognition and built-in fan base needed to fund a grassroots campaign. Isn't robbing the rich one of Bernie's mantras anyway? #FeelTheButt

r19 I mean, Pete has over 700k donors, so he's grassroots funded as well. And he definitely couldn't compete using the cash from these fundraisers alone. Of course, Bernie has an enormous established network back from 2015, so you can't really compare the two.

No, it's politics. Politics is hardball. No one is obligated to get out of anyone else's way. Only voters make the final call.
The problem is that the primary season starts eons ahead of the first vote.

r23 No, it's not politics, it's populism. The same kind of populism that poisoned the well for Hillary in 2016. You don't attack your DEMOCRATIC competitors on how they raise their funds, especially when they're doing it transparently, within DNC limits, and open to the press.
Go attack Trump's $300+ million warchest of dirty money instead. Bernie really thinks these Trumpian smears will make me vote for him in the general? Good luck with that. Also, we really should stick to talking about policy, not how many Swarovski crystals there are in a random wine cave in Napa. I mean, seriously. This is presidential politics, not kindergarten.

Or maybe Pete should just own it. he basically loves the rich and thinks income inequality is pretty much fine, just throw a few more pennies at the poors and everyone will be okay. He could go down that road, without much cost to himself, really.

r27 None of his policy positions released so far would support the assertion that he loves the rich. In fact, I don't think spending $2.800 on a candidate you really like is considered something only rich people do. In fact, many have maxed out to Bernie as well.

Not always sure about Bernie. He may not be the one. But he and Warren get the fundamental fact: we have been fucking around with this stupid idea that giving the rich more money is the greatest idea the government can have for a very long time and it accomplishes nothing. If others are willing to acknowledge that fact, great. if not, fuck em.
