Jeff Van Drew, Party-Switching NJ Congressman

He just switched from Democrat to Republican and his entire DC staff resigned.

There is a mention of a wife in his Wikipedia (with the odd name "Ricarda") but in the picture it appears as if someone has just removed a delicious batch of oatmeal raisin cookies from a nearby oven.

What ever came of Jim McGreevy.

What happens when you join the Cult? Do you get painted orange in the well of the House? What are the rituals?

by Anonymousreply 2December 16, 2019 11:53 PM

Damn, even his choice of clothing is fussy. I hope the Party was able to find new jobs for the staff members that did a joint walkout. Gotta reward Party loyalty. Good riddance. Another Dem will snatch that seat in the 2020 wave, and he will be left looking like a straight idiot.

by Anonymousreply 3December 16, 2019 11:55 PM

He looks like a douche.

by Anonymousreply 4December 17, 2019 12:00 AM

I helped him pick out those clothes.

by Anonymousreply 5December 17, 2019 12:08 AM

May be a new trend the way things are going.

by Anonymousreply 6December 17, 2019 12:20 AM

Sure--you mock me for a turquoise belt, but you're okay with his LAVENDER shirt and tie.

A slap in the face to every volunteer who worked without pay on his campaigns, to every democratic county part that supported him, to every small-time donor who threw a fundraiser in their Italian restaurant to get their friends to make a donation.

He's human trash.

by Anonymousreply 8December 17, 2019 12:46 AM

Yes, r8. Everyone running knew that taking the House would lead this sloppy Admin towards Impeachment. This iron-clad case is the icing on the cake, anyone that calls it anything but a corruption of the office is a fool.

by Anonymousreply 9December 17, 2019 12:53 AM

Doesn't he want to hear the evidence first, the testimonies??

by Anonymousreply 10December 17, 2019 1:00 AM

Those Russian girls Trump hired to pee on that hotel bed the Obamas slept on? They weren't girls and they weren't Russian.

by Anonymousreply 11December 17, 2019 1:03 AM

That get-up in op’s pic is gayer than a birthday tablecloth....and he should be slapped for that pocket square...

by Anonymousreply 12December 17, 2019 1:25 AM

I feel certain that he was the easiest Democratic House member who could be blackmailed.

by Anonymousreply 13December 17, 2019 1:29 AM

Fuck this jerk

by Anonymousreply 14December 17, 2019 1:30 AM

Goodbye, Jeff.

by Anonymousreply 15December 17, 2019 6:26 AM

Was this blackmail ? Is he a closet case?

by Anonymousreply 16December 17, 2019 11:37 AM

He is being primaries by a democrat and he was losing in the polls. That’s why he switched.

Deplorables will accuse home of being a rhino and the dem will sweep come 2020.

by Anonymousreply 17December 17, 2019 11:40 AM

He looks gayer than Mini Mike

by Anonymousreply 18December 17, 2019 11:51 AM

Even his name is gay.

by Anonymousreply 19December 17, 2019 12:18 PM

Why can’t he just vote against impeachment and stay a Democrat? There are a few Dems who will vote against impeachment; Nancy Pelosi isn’t going to punish since she said it was a vote of conscience. Why does he have switch parties and become a Repig?

by Anonymousreply 20December 17, 2019 12:25 PM

That's some photo, OP. Mixing patterns requires skill and more than a little talent. This guy didn't get the one and never developed the other.

And the pocket square is just ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 21December 17, 2019 12:37 PM

He seems like a closeted insurance salesman queen.

by Anonymousreply 22December 17, 2019 12:42 PM

Are people not getting the primary thing? I mean how is that being left out of the narrative.

I’m going to get a bullhorn and start screaming outside of media buildings.

by Anonymousreply 23December 17, 2019 12:43 PM

What primary thing, R23? The democrate coming at him from the left? Or now, the Republican coming at him from the party. There are already THREE announced GOP candidates for that seat.

by Anonymousreply 24December 17, 2019 12:45 PM

[quote]Why can’t he just vote against impeachment and stay a Democrat?

Because his trunk kept getting caught in the closet door.

by Anonymousreply 25December 17, 2019 1:00 PM

Nadler said Sunday that Rep. Jeff Van Drew, D-N.J., is set to switch parties is because he saw polling that suggested Democrats in his district don't want to renominate him.

by Anonymousreply 26December 17, 2019 1:33 PM

And neither do the Republicans!

by Anonymousreply 27December 17, 2019 1:50 PM

It’s got to be blackmail. He met with Trump, then he switched. You know, like Trump met with Miss Lindsey on the golf course, then suddenly he loves Trump. In one day.

Trump’s Russian friends got the goods on him. There’s Grindr pics or gay porn somewhere, maybe underage stuff.

What’s scary about that is, that shows Putin is looking for dirt, maybe on every member of Congress, to buy votes. How many others have done something bad?

I think making him switch parties was to prove a point. He’s Trump’s puppet now, just like Lindsey. Watch and see if he starts noisily kissing Trump’s ass, like flipping a switch. Those people are warnings to everybody else, on what’s going to happen to them if they have some skeletons in their closets.

by Anonymousreply 28December 17, 2019 2:04 PM

This is why gays in Congress need to come out and be elected as gay. Everyone criticizes Buttigieg as being “not gay enough,” but chances are he doesn’t have any skeletons for Republicans to dig up. This is exactly why they used to say spies couldn’t be gay many years ago, because it was blackmail material if someone wanted to turn them.

The solution for that is, be out and nobody can threaten you. And stay away from situations that look bad. I sure hope they don’t go after closet cases like Booker. People that are trying so hard to hide something often do things that look bad in an effort to cover up.

by Anonymousreply 29December 17, 2019 2:10 PM

This is his first term, so he is not entrenched in his districtt. It's not a particularly progressive district. If he votes for impeachment, he loses the entire right and that could be the end of his career. One term. If he votes against impeachment, he most definitely loses the support of the New Jersey Democratic Party. Damned if he does. Damned if he doesn't.

I suspect Trump promised to lavishly replace that support, if Van Drew would change parties. He followed the money. Obviously, the man's hold on the seat is not assured, regardlessof his party affiliation. Trump just promised more financial support.

He's in the "men who look like elderly lesbians" category. The face at R40 is giving her sistern detailed nutloaf-making instructions.

by Anonymousreply 44December 17, 2019 11:59 PM

Anybody think all the Republicans will turn around and vote for this guy? Trump might have made a deal with the RNC to support him in a Republican run. If they endorse him, Deplorables might happily vote for him. The RNC can probably stop primary challengers in return for his vote.

What I want to know is, why do these morons act if they’re just going to die if they don’t get re-elected? What’s the worst that could happen? Most of them are lawyers, or could get jobs on boards of directors, or could be given some kind of crony job or work as a lobbyist. Pretty much any of those jobs pay better than a political office.

by Anonymousreply 45December 18, 2019 12:02 AM

R45: The party national committees only set rules for Presidential nominations. All the oher offices are the responsibility of state Boards of Elections. When you file to run for office, it's with your state or county election authority. If a party committee says no to you, you can tell them to go to hell. A few states retain conventions to nominate or endorse for offices, but it's very rare. The 2 major American parties are porous organizations, federations of state and local franchises, really.

by Anonymousreply 46December 18, 2019 12:16 AM

R46, but don’t these people endorse candidates they prefer? How much would it take for Giuliani or some Trump flunky to get out the word, Trump wants you to vote for this guy? Trump has a 90% approval rating among Republicans, and they all vote in lockstep. They don’t think about the individual.

by Anonymousreply 47December 18, 2019 12:11 PM

R47 is correct that Republicans do not consider the individual candidate and only vote for the "R." And look how that is working out for the country.

Much of it goes back to Reagan and his 11th Commandment. (Thou shalt speak no ill of another Republican.)

I know Reagan is burning in Hell. But that knowledge is not enough because I can't hear his screams.

Van Drew makes it official, pledges "undying support" to his new Cheeto overlord

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 49December 19, 2019 11:14 PM

Somebody is super blackmailed and is being told what to say word for word. And he’s very distressed about it.

He denied “undying,” even though it was on video. That was an oath he took, not a random comment. Someone forced him to swear undying loyalty to Trump in public, not private. That sounds like Putin more than Trump.

That kind of coercion under duress is exactly Putin’s m.o. Trump may be vindictive but he’s not that smart. Either they’ve got a picture of him with a dead girl (highly unlikely) or a live boy. They’re already humiliating him at the earliest possible moment. This is Lindsey Graham 2.0.

Remember, Putin hates gays. He must be looking for blackmail material for all of Congress, but especially for gays. They find the dirt, they lower the boom.
