How do you get out of the house?

If you are scared? If you're afraid to go the store? How do you summon the will to get ready or do anything? When cozy blankets are so nice?

by Anonymousreply 29December 17, 2019 4:57 AM

A need for money to fund said cozy blankets is usually the cure for such snowflakes.

If someone else is paying their bills and/or running their errands these people have no motivation for change.

But they will get out of a cozy blanket if it means going to a government office to apply for disability.

Don't buy anything online, like groceries and essentials. Then you will be forced to go to the store because you are hungry.

by Anonymousreply 2December 15, 2019 6:54 PM

How could you be at home all day and night? I'd be losing my mind! So fuckin boring. Talking to people and making acquaintances is a blast!

by Anonymousreply 3December 15, 2019 7:00 PM

R3 early childhood trauma and abuse.

I find being alone to be wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 4December 15, 2019 7:02 PM

Being alone is wonderful R4? Then why you posting, asking how to get out the house??

by Anonymousreply 5December 15, 2019 7:04 PM

[quote]Because America yo

What does that mean, exactly?

When is the fad of omitting prepositions going to end?

by Anonymousreply 7December 15, 2019 7:13 PM

Fuck getting out of the house. I have worked for almost 20 days straight, without ONE SINGLE FREAKIN’ DAY OFF. And we’re gearing up for another non-stop cycle, until New Year’s Day, with Christmas off, as a break.

Fuck it.

I’m spending every last minute of my 1st weekend off watching Netflix, eating carbs, sleeping, & talking shit on DataLounge. I’m gonna sleep like a baby tonight, and start the nonstop work crap again, tomorrow morning. No big deal. Just part of life: work.

I’ll fly to Dubai later, with all of the ridiculous overtime money I’m making right now.

Some people here might need a construction crane to pull them out of their houses.

by Anonymousreply 9December 15, 2019 7:16 PM

Force yourself, do it early. As early as you can to avoid the crowds. The stores are offering insane sales, almost 90% off. Its worth a look.

by Anonymousreply 10December 15, 2019 7:26 PM

R1, you’re a prick.

I know disabled people who work full time, because they want to, and I also know disabled people who cannot get out of bed, because they’re disabled.

Obviously, the one who never gets out of his house (of stereotypes and judgments) is YOU.

R4, I went through all of that too, and when I have enough disposable income to get out and play, I do. Fortunately, I’ve secured a job where now, I can have some cash for my weekend jaunts.

You can get out of the house, and do shit alone. Museums, concerts, weekends elsewhere, whatever.

A lot of working class folks can’t afford to get out of the house, and that’s the truth. And depending on where you live, you can’t just get out and walk around, or go hiking, or sit on the beach with a good book.

When depression is treated successfully, the depressed person will eventually want to get out of the house. That’s my experience.

Unfortunately, not all depression responds to antidepressants, and that’s why the people who are unfortunate enough to have non treatable depression, are genuinely disabled.

I don’t judge hermits. We never know what they’re struggling with, and because I’ve experienced that type of depression, I understand.

Good luck to you, R4. Hugs 🤗.

Exercise helped my depression. I was poor and unemployed so I joined planet fitness for ten dollars per month .

by Anonymousreply 12December 15, 2019 7:36 PM

R8, what kind of work do you do? Are you really going to Dubai when you have some time off?

by Anonymousreply 13December 15, 2019 7:44 PM

Does everyone here on the DL need to relearn this?

OP, you need a purpose. I don’t like wandering around but am fine if I have a place to go and something to do there.

by Anonymousreply 15December 16, 2019 1:48 AM

OP, are you the same person that began the thread a few months back about not being able to shower? Or getting out the house?

by Anonymousreply 16December 16, 2019 1:50 AM

DLers who came here to make a snarky comment about putting one foot in front of the other realizing this is a thread about dealing with major, major depression

You could easily be killed in Dubai. Only a fool goes there.

by Anonymousreply 18December 16, 2019 2:00 AM

R8, my Dubai comment was a reference to a comment I made on another thread.

I am not afraid of going to Dubai, nor do I think I will be killed there, LOL! That said, I have very little to zero interest to going to what is the equivalent of Vegas, but much hotter, with some camels here and there, and a bunch of dudes in caftans, who repress the fuck out of women, and engage in egregious abuse of the cheap labor they recruit from places where people are desperately attempting to find work, in order to feed their kids.

There are literally hundreds of amazing destinations to vacation in, through out the world, and even in the United States, where I will spend my cash, before I hit Dubai. I’m currently very interested in exploring the parts I haven’t yet explored, here in America. I wanna go camping, and see our national parks. Alaska, Montana, Northern California, Washington state, the Appalachian Trail - shit like that, before I’m too old to physically meet the demands of undertaking such endeavors.

America is one of THE MOST beautiful continents on earth, and it can be explored via our access to our beautiful national parks. I wanna see it. It’s on my bucket list, where as Dubai, ain’t.

I'm a real homebody. I could stay inside for days.

But I also like to shower and put on some nice clothes and go exploring. Luckily, I live in an area where everything is within two miles (multi-plex movie theater, restaurants, Big Lots, thrift stores, casino, several supermarkets...). I like buying some cheap new items, eating something different and just driving around.

by Anonymousreply 21December 16, 2019 4:14 PM

I'm retired, and I work seasonally part-time online from home, so I really only need to go anywhere when I take my garbage to the dump and buy groceries. That said, I sometimes take myself out to eat (I'm single and live alone) or run other errands to buy things I need that are easier/cheaper to buy locally than they would be to order online.

But I find it harder and harder to leave the house. My health is not as good at it once was, and sometimes when I go out, I'm so exhausted that I can't do anything at all the next day.

I do walk my dog every day, so there's that. And my neighbors all know me because they love my dog, and most of them are very friendly. so I do have some social interaction. And I keep in touch with my faraway friends by phone.

You can only do as much as you can do, OP. I know in my heart that I'm doing the best I can with what I have left.

by Anonymousreply 22December 16, 2019 4:16 PM

I would much rather stay home but have responsibilities that require leaving the house. I hate being in crowds so avoid them whenever possible, especially during cold & flu season. I had to do some Christmas shopping on Saturday and was out and about early, mission accomplished and home by 10 am. Didn't leave the house again until I had to head to work this morning.

OP, when I don’t have the pressure of shopping for presents, I enjoy the shopping district at Christmas time. Maybe consider that?

by Anonymousreply 25December 17, 2019 1:20 AM

OP, here’s one for Tuesday, 12/17/19. Go and just stand there, if nothing else. Say hello to someone. Start with “Is this the rally for impeachment” if there are no signs, or “Do you know when this ends?”, “How has it been, so far?” Just try to enjoy yourself.

I had full-blown agoraphobia for three years. Therapy did nothing for me. Antidepressants and some simple counterphobic techniques had me out and about within a matter of weeks.

by Anonymousreply 27December 17, 2019 2:48 AM

Oh, OP, if you have a substance abuse problem, including booze, you may have to quit. If you do, you may find your agoraphobia dissipates effortlessly.

by Anonymousreply 28December 17, 2019 4:30 AM

R27 - What "simple counterphobic techniques" are you referring to? Love it if you' d share a couple of them here.
