I love it, of course. She purrs, lol. But still!
I bought a 75” TV and feel indulgent

But will it hold you at night?

I almost want to say that she does, R1. Almost, lol.

Why is it a "she"?

So you live in a 300 sq ft studio apt.

75" OLED, projection, or LCD?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 14, 2019 5:46 PM |
R3 I dunno. Probably cause I’m fem. I refer to my most prized possession - a Yamaha baby grand - by feminine pronouns too.
R4 Nope. 1,250 square feet. Not big by any means but very comfortable.
R5 Sony OLED.

Did Bernie say it was OK?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 14, 2019 6:04 PM |
R7. No. I don’t really speak with him. He’d probably chide me for paying so much for a TV and he’d be right!

So your mothers' basement has high ceilings?

43 inches is adequate. More is vulgar.

75” is humongous. Can’t even imagine. But life can be short. If it makes you happy & you’re not hurting anyone, enjoy.
I’m assuming, OP, you’re watching from a couch or chair. How far away do you sit? How many feet? TIA.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 15, 2019 7:50 AM |
Congrats, OP. Although I fear that the two-foot long dicks will traumatize you when you're watching porn.

When I went from a 20" tv to Sony's near top of the line 32" XBR, it was a big upgrade. When I moved from a 32" Sony XBR to my first 50" flat screen Panasonic plasma, I thought it was HUGE.
When I went from 50" to 65" of the last model of plasma that Panasonic ever made (which is still touted as one of the best pictures ever), 50" seemed small and 65" seemed so HUGE.
Now, I'm starting to think that 75" or 85" OLED might be the way to go within the next few years, now that they've gotten a handle on OLED burn-in problems.
Can you imagine - 85" of grand DataLounge threads?

Huge television sets are hick status symbol.
They are in the same category as McMansions.
Those of wealth and taste prefer sets in the 45 inch range, after already having gone through the huge TV phase.

LOL - those with "wealth and taste" eschew TV as a hick endeavor more broadly,
I love people who have airs of refinement, but that refinement was learned on reality tv from real housewives and their ilk.

What The DLer Meant:
My White Trash neighbors all brag about their big TVs . To prove that, despite appearances to the contrary, I am not one of them, I will claim my smaller set is evidence of my affinity for the well to do.

More than 65” makes me feel like I’m watching a tennis match and tires my eyes from scanning the screen.

Truly wealthy people of breeding and taste rarely watch television because they are out experiencing all the world has to offer.
Personal experiences are vastly superior that watching others on television, you see.

R21 That’s just what they say to keep up appearances. Meanwhile they are holed up in their mansions watching their stories like the rest of us.

I'd love one that big. My partner and I do the NYT crossword on the screen most nights, and 42 inches really isn't big enough to handle the larger puzzles. 72 would let us both sit comfortably and read the puzzle without straining.

FWIW, R24, prices on TVs have dropped fairly dramatically over past year or two and the difference between the high end sets and the Chinese-made ones is fairly minimal--the Chinese government also subsidizes pricing on those sets to allow them to gain market share in the US.
Point being, you can probably find a good 75 inch HDTV at BestBuy or similar for under $700, maybe even under $500 if they're having a sale.

R16 OLED burn-in is not a problem if you're careful, but still can occur in current sets. I have a lovely 55” LG OLED that I left on the same channel for several days straight, thanks to current US politics. I ended up with a news network logo burned into the to the lower right of the screen. Subtle, but always there.
LG has features in the settings to prevent burn-in (clear pixels, screensaver, screen shift, etc.), so I assume other brands do also. But it still can happen, as my dumb behavior demonstrates. Varying what you watch prevents the problem. It's really aggravating that everybody's got a damn logo constantly on the screen nowadays, which is bad news for OLED. It would probably eliminate the problem if their logos were intermittent instead of in your face at all times.
