I need a new winter scarf

I lost my old one. I don’t like it too long or too heavy/thick. Any suggestions?

by Anonymousreply 40December 19, 2019 1:44 AM

A few fresh lesbian friends, Wahl clippers, some supplies from Michaels and voila!

by Anonymousreply 1November 30, 2019 4:13 AM

I love scarves.

by Anonymousreply 2November 30, 2019 4:13 AM

I had one that appeared to be hand knit and had a little bit of elastic to it so it would curl up around your neck. It was great but I lost that one.

They are on sale at Stein Mart. I see them there for five bucks. It’s probably the case and many stores and less of course your shop in places like Macy’s. And those stores you need to bend over as they give it to you really good. Scarfs or are great. Enjoy the new when you buy.

Whatever goes with your caftan OP.

by Anonymousreply 5November 30, 2019 8:50 AM

Harris Tweed scarves are lightweight but very warm.

by Anonymousreply 6November 30, 2019 10:00 AM

How butch of you OP

by Anonymousreply 7November 30, 2019 10:10 AM

Pashmina is cheap now, I think.

Remember when rich ass New York socialites used to break trade laws to get pashmina scarves?

I think you can buy it by the yard in fabric stores now.

Walmart to Etsy.

by Anonymousreply 8November 30, 2019 10:34 AM

Fake pashmina r8.

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2019 10:36 AM

Why limit yourself with one? Learn to knit and make everyone else mad with scarf envy.

R17 A mink scarf? Never heard of that.

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2019 7:26 PM

I learned to knit then knitted my self a scarf made of baby Alpaca wool. The best €40 I ever spend on wool

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2019 7:33 PM

Scarves disappear. We leave them everywhere.

So go to a good thrift or consignment store in your community to purchase your scarves. Why pay more?

I was in India a few years ago.

Many of the men were wearing pashmina scarves.

If you fold it instead of wearing it like a wrap as many women do, it looks nice and is quite comfortable.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2019 7:50 PM

What's your favorite color, OP?

Have hook, will crochet.

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2019 8:12 PM

I like pale blue bronze age. Are you offering to make me one?

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2019 8:59 PM

A cowl might be a better idea, they're impossible to lose.

by Anonymousreply 25December 9, 2019 9:21 PM

Don't go overboard with your scarf, like Lenny Kravitz.

Don't know where you live, OP. But I bet Macy's can offer you a real cashmere scarf for no more than ten dollars at this time of year. Although the season being what it is, you might want to eat a full meal and take a 10mg valium before heading for an actual store. They might have them online. All the main online retailers, Eddie Bauer, Land's End, L. L. Bean, have that stuff on sale online. Hopefully the shipping won't stagger you into apoplexy.

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2019 10:05 PM

It looks like Lenny is wearing a blanket as a scarf!

by Anonymousreply 28December 10, 2019 4:44 AM

I was going to suggest this one but they’re SOLD OUT!!

It’s a $400Scarf who in the heck Buys these?

Get a shrug

by Anonymousreply 30December 17, 2019 6:31 AM

A wool/silk reversible scarf is lightweight and elegant. The wool is a very tight weave; the scarves are light as a feather. They're somewhat formal but would look stylish with a leather jacket as well. They're not cheap, so if you tend to lose scarves, it's maybe not a good choice.

(This is the best picture I could find, but they come in much better colors.)

Are those warm R31?

by Anonymousreply 32December 17, 2019 1:45 PM

You can learn to crochet in five minutes. A scarf will take you about three hours.

Of course knitting is better and softer, but that is for sissies

by Anonymousreply 33December 17, 2019 2:01 PM

I am riveted by this search, please keep us informed. I found my own favourite scarf years ago it is Emporio Armani deep navy blue fine knit wool in a herring bone textured weave. I think I paid $70 for it in the 90's it was an after Christmas sale from the EA boutique on Bloor St. in Toronto. I have about 20 scarves ( that I never wear ) but I can't part with them.

by Anonymousreply 34December 17, 2019 2:21 PM

They’re mixing them with acrylic and polyester and other plastic type materials now. Ick.

by Anonymousreply 35December 17, 2019 2:42 PM

R32, they're wool lined with silk, so fairly warm, yes. They keep the wind off your neck. They're not rated to 30 below, but they're plenty warm enough for LA, where I believe OP said he lives. I wear one with a wool coat in normal Philadelphia winter weather, but I would choose something warmer to go with the North Face parka on bitter cold days.

by Anonymousreply 36December 18, 2019 6:45 AM

That sounds like a nice scarf R34!

by Anonymousreply 37December 19, 2019 1:06 AM

I purchased one of these a week ago. I really like it and it’s pretty soft. The only thing I wish it was longer by about 6 inches or so.

Something to bring out your eyes.

by Anonymousreply 39December 19, 2019 1:42 AM

Chenille is a really nice material (soft and warm) for a scarf. Not for gloves, though, too many holes.
