Post-SNL Taran Killam

Comes across very sweet and unaffected in this podcast. He doesn't say it outright, but reading between the lines SNL sounds like a poisonous work environment.

Also, he pings.

who is bobby lee?

love taran . fab on snl

who is bobby lee??

by Anonymousreply 1April 11, 2019 2:45 PM

Like other cute guys from SNL, he struggles with his weight.

by Anonymousreply 2April 11, 2019 2:59 PM

Bobby Lee was Taran's cast mate on MadTV

by Anonymousreply 3April 11, 2019 3:01 PM

His best work to date:

Taran's given an in depth interview of his time at SNL. It's a good listen. He was definitely one of their finer performers during his run there. I hope he's proud of the work he did, even if it ended somewhat sourly.

He's so cute

by Anonymousreply 9April 11, 2019 9:45 PM

I always enjoyed Taran on SNL. I would love to hear him spill a little more about the environment at SNL, specifically details about the "cold and dismissive " side to it. Lorne definitely seems to play favorites and that must sting for the actors that he doesn't dote on. I wonder if he ever plays them against each other.

by Anonymousreply 10April 11, 2019 9:51 PM

I hope I live long enough to read a definitive down and dirty biography of Lorne.

I loved him on SNL. Why’s he such a fat pig now?

Could someone who's listened to the podcast @ r5 give a breakdown of the juiciest bits?

by Anonymousreply 15April 11, 2019 11:31 PM

Yes, please?

by Anonymousreply 16April 11, 2019 11:32 PM

R15 Not much there. Some quotes:

SNL was a “harsh environment.” “disposable creative effort.” Lorne was “intimidating.” (repeated this twice.) “dismissive and cold.” “passive punishment.” And something about a tape that was made (of him?) and passed around and people laughed at it.

That’s about it.

by Anonymousreply 17April 11, 2019 11:51 PM

According to Taran, the work environment deteriorated after Seth Meyers left the head writer job after having been there for over a decade.

by Anonymousreply 18April 11, 2019 11:54 PM

It would be difficult to be creative in an environment like that. Explains a lot.

by Anonymousreply 19April 11, 2019 11:59 PM

Taran is so much sexier and more talented than Colin Jost. Why doesn't Lorne shitcan that useless twat?

by Anonymousreply 20April 12, 2019 12:02 AM

R11 the thing is Lorne has an army of "favorites" that will push back against any negative stories.

by Anonymousreply 21April 12, 2019 12:03 AM

According to Taran, Lorne was pressuring people to go easy on Trump and not "vilify "him.

by Anonymousreply 22April 12, 2019 12:03 AM

He's on that new show Single Parents.

Not a particularly good show, but mildly entertaining. The most bizarre part is Leighton Meister is on playing a single mom - totally against character from her Gossip Girl days. Smart move

by Anonymousreply 23April 12, 2019 12:04 AM

R20 Lorne has his favorites that he treats very well and gives chance after chance. If you're not a favorite, he can be quite hard on you (from what I've read ). Jost is a favorite of his while Taran wasn't. I agree that Killam is more talented.

by Anonymousreply 24April 12, 2019 12:05 AM

I mean a book that could only come out after Lorne is dead. Tongues might loosen then r21.

by Anonymousreply 25April 12, 2019 12:05 AM

R20 Taran had like 6 years on the show. He is one of a long list of kind of forgettable but competent SNL sketch performers who never "broke out". They have careers but aren't stars like a Bill Hader.

by Anonymousreply 26April 12, 2019 12:06 AM

R25 I don't think so. His favorites are hardcore supporters. I can't see Tina, Seth, Jimmy and others saying bad things about him.

by Anonymousreply 27April 12, 2019 12:08 AM

I agree with your assessment of Killam r26. But Jost has no talent at all. And he's [bold] very [/bold] smug

by Anonymousreply 28April 12, 2019 12:10 AM

all are lame

Yea Colin Jost has an ugly ass face. I love Taran. He is so sexy and cute to me. Fat or not.

by Anonymousreply 31April 12, 2019 12:50 AM

I think Colin is adorable! I’d fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 32April 12, 2019 12:52 AM

Colin looks like a monkey

by Anonymousreply 33April 12, 2019 1:03 AM

And not a booger-eating baboon?

by Anonymousreply 34April 12, 2019 1:12 AM

Colin's kinda dull. He delivers Weekend Update well, but he just seems like too much of a rich boy to be relatable or compelling as a comedian/performer.

by Anonymousreply 35April 12, 2019 1:15 AM

From some angles, Jost looks like a younger version of the gay porn real estate guy, Fredrik Eklund.

Jay Mohr's book about his two years at SNL gave some insight into the SNL environment back then and he made the comment that Lorne refused to change schedules and things that might worked well in the past, but didn't work well at that time in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 37May 4, 2019 7:28 PM

Taran Killam wasn't fat while on SNL. Being in a relationship with a woman and kids usually makes a man fat.

by Anonymousreply 38May 4, 2019 7:51 PM

Taran’s weight has always gone up and down. He left unexpectedly because his head was up his ass. At the end of his last season he told Lorne, point blank, that he wouldn’t be able to appear in all the fall’s episodes, but that he would come and go as his movie filming allowed. Lorne said, “We’ll be fine without you - at all.” Taran’s ego is a big out of control and of course Lorne is a controlling dick.

by Anonymousreply 39May 4, 2019 8:04 PM

Fat fuck.

by Anonymousreply 40May 4, 2019 8:08 PM

I wonder why Jay Pharoah was fired at the same time as Taran.

by Anonymousreply 41May 4, 2019 8:21 PM

R41 because they needed to make room for new cast members. They both only had a year left on their contracts. Plus, neither was a favorite of Lorne.

Taran annoyed Lorne with his moviemaking and I bet Jay probably did something, too.

by Anonymousreply 42May 4, 2019 9:45 PM

When it comes to playing favorite Lorne is kind of shitty at it. His favoritism of Pete Davidson and Leslie Jones is laughable. Both stink up most sketches that they are in. Taran was much better sketch performer than them.

by Anonymousreply 43May 5, 2019 6:05 PM

I don’t love him in SINGLE PARENTS. He’s a bit too odd to be the Everyman and should be playing the Brad Garrett role.

by Anonymousreply 44November 16, 2019 7:54 AM

He gives me bb cum dump pig teas

by Anonymousreply 45November 16, 2019 7:57 AM

Taran WAS a favorite during his run of the show--he was always the go-to white guy for any sketch when they needed one, and so he was in practically every sketch. He was one of those really good dependable types like Bill Hader and (long ago) Phil Hartman. He was not as talented as either Hader or Hartman, but he wasn't untalented, either.

Lorne's fondness for Pete Davidson and Leslie Jones is something I don;t understand, but I've heard multiple times from people that they are both much funnier in person than on SNL. Other comics apparently just adore Leslie Jones and think she's a scream in their conversations with her, but she just was never good on SNL. But it's not a format that works for everyone--Chris Rock wasn't funny when he was on, and that's just because his sort of humor doesn't work on that sort of show.

by Anonymousreply 46November 16, 2019 8:07 AM

He played Orin Scrivello D.D.S in the concert version of "Little Shop Of Horrors" with Ellen Greene and Jake Gyllenhaal. He can sing.

Taran never has to worry about money, thanks to his wife. Between How I Met Your Mother and bit parts in half the Marvel movies, she's sitting pretty.

by Anonymousreply 49November 16, 2019 8:22 AM

Whoever staged/blocked/choreographed him in r48 should be ashamed. What bad, literal, boring musical theatre nonsense. Killam deserved better

by Anonymousreply 50November 16, 2019 8:56 AM

He was fantastic in Documentary Now's "Co-op!"

by Anonymousreply 51November 16, 2019 9:10 AM

He looked surprisingly hot in the Kevin Hart/Tiffany Haddish movie "Night School." He plays the Principal (aka "The Man") in these kinds of movies but he actually looked pretty hot with the mustache.

R49, do you have any idea how much cancer treatment costs? Highly unlikely Cobie has done little more than break even.

by Anonymousreply 57November 16, 2019 10:08 AM

SNL men tend to do better than you'd think. Almost all of them pull above their weight class. Scarlett Johansson for Jost, Ariana Grade for Davidson, Joanna Newsom for Samberg (though Samberg's actually super hot)... it's just how it goes.

Also, keep in mind the men at SNL are at the nexus of entertainment. It's like a hub... everyone's done SNL, everyone's been through those buildings and seen those cast members, and they've gotta be interesting, charismatic dudes to be on that show.

by Anonymousreply 58November 16, 2019 10:10 AM

Lorne can count his lucky, or Satanic, stars to come up with the idea of a new "hot and famous right now" guest host and band every week. Without that gimmick that humorless hack and SNL would be forgotten a long time ago.

by Anonymousreply 59November 16, 2019 10:19 AM

R57 I'm sure it made a significant dent, but she made bank. Her costar is basically a land baron these days, buying and renting out several high-end properties around LA.

R60 have you ever heard of a show called Buffy The Vampire Slayer?

Do you see how their careers and situations are not comparable at all?

by Anonymousreply 61November 16, 2019 6:39 PM

Seeing as how I've worked with a number of the cast, I'd say so. While I'd say Buffy is the much better show, How I Met Your Mother was certainly the bigger payday. It lasted longer and was on a bigger network. And AGAIN, Cobie also has her Marvel checks and works regularly. She's not "breaking even"

by Anonymousreply 62November 16, 2019 6:46 PM

Speaking as someone who has much better known actor friends than Cobie Smulders who had much more quickly cured cancer than she did, I’d say I’m the better judge of how far those paychecks simply do not go.

by Anonymousreply 63November 16, 2019 7:21 PM

The guy's name sounds like what Lorne would say if he found out former cast members were talking trash about him: TARAN KILLAM!! TARAN KILLAM!!

by Anonymousreply 64November 16, 2019 7:44 PM

Fatty fatty fat fat

by Anonymousreply 65November 16, 2019 7:46 PM

How could it not be a toxic environment? The writers write for specific cast members, and if you go several weeks or more without being in a single skit, I would imagine you'd be resentful of those who seem to be in everything.

Add to that you never know if Lorne is going to just dismiss you at a moments notice, it's stressful.

by Anonymousreply 66November 16, 2019 7:54 PM

sure, r53 . It was a smash, etc. But the person who blocked that song in the video is the kind of hack trash that makes most people instinctively hate musical theater. Pantomiming holding a cat and petting it on the "kitty cat" lyric? Give me a break. Guarantee a dancer staged it.

by Anonymousreply 67November 17, 2019 5:39 AM

He reminds me of those babies born without any face bones. Some cunt here used to punctuate threads with a picture of one of them. No face bones!

by Anonymousreply 68December 16, 2019 7:43 PM

I've seen standup videos of Jones and I think she's better in that format. On SNL, she botched her lines in most sketches.

by Anonymousreply 69December 16, 2019 7:54 PM

What kind of name is Taran ?

by Anonymousreply 70December 16, 2019 8:07 PM

His original name was 'Tarzan' but he dropped the 'z' because it was ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 71December 16, 2019 8:12 PM

R24 Scarlett Johansson said she became attracted to Colin Jost when he directed her in a skit and was very good at managing people and the situations that arose.

If he is one of Lorne’s favourites, I’m guessing Taran is somewhat more insecure.

I love his sitcom SINGLE PARENTS. Brad Garrett is great.
